We went along to the Edinburgh Slingmeet today. It was lovely to catch up with old friends and make some new ones as well as showing off, and trying on, some different baby carriers. My custom Melkaj arrived a few weeks ago and I am so pleased with it. It has lovely wide softly padded waist and shoulder straps and is very comfortable to wear, Emily feels almost weightless in it! I ordered the fabric - 'Latte Echino Scene' by Etsuko Furuya of Kokka - from Superbuzzy in the US, and had it sent directly to Agnieszka in Poland who made it into this lovely Mei Tai:

The reverse side is brown silk with gorgeous embroidery to complement the fabric and the straps are made from brown cord. It is truly one of a kind! Here's a pic of it in action:

As well as the practicality of carrying her I love the closeness it brings. While she is awake we 'chat' to eachother and she is high enough to see everything that is going on around her, and when she is tired she snuggles into me and falls asleep. Natural Mamas is a forum of likeminded parents who love to carry their babies and is a great source of information on different types of baby carriers and how to use them. I've learnt (and bought) a lot from them and would recommend it as a good place to start if you are interested in finding out more.
